La Selva Biological Station
La Selva Biological Station is one of the most important places for ecology research in Costa Rica and in the tropics worldwide. The forest is surrounded on the west, east, and north by pastures and farms, but in the south is adjacent to the famous Braulio Carrillo National Park. The Station is a center for biological research and is now owned and operated by the Tropical Studies Organization (OTS). It was originally founded by the farsighted tropical forester, Dr. Leslie Holdridge in 1953.
La Selva Biological Station has a natural reserve that protects approximately 1,614 hectares of primary rain forest. It includes 1,850 species of plants, 350 species of trees, 448 species of birds and approximately 500 species of ants.A must see for the nature lover.
