Arenal Volcano
The end of inactivity for Arenal Volcano occurred on July 29th, 1968, at 7:30 a.m., when an enormous eruption awakened this sleeping giant. Since then, Arenal Volcano has become a must see for everyone who visits the wonders of Costa Rica. Today, this fierce fiery flame still surprises visitors and residents with sudden eruptions of lava and stone.
Its almost perfect conical shape and artifical Arenal Lake with its long passages was built in the 70's, and now it makes a setting for one of the most beautiful in this part of paradise.
Here you will witness the unique splendor of the impressive eruptions that have occurred day and night for more than thirty years. Also, there is a magnificent rain forest that surrounds this testiment to Nature's marvels.
Arenal volcano is one of the five most active volcanoes in the world at an elevation of 1657 meters above sea level.
